Upgrading from 4.0 to 4.1.3beta

I have been using version 4.0 on Windows XP with mySQL running as a service - ie mysqld.exe loads as the exe defined for the service.

I need couple of 4.1 features so I downloaded the beta version and installed it, but found that the file mysqld.exe was not overwritten in the new version, and does not even exist in the download. (Found this by installing to a different directory to the current install)

When I log in to the server from the command line client the version is still stated as 4.0

So now I am confused ... am I updated to version 4.1 or not ?, it would seem not but all the files in mysql\bin are newer than before.

Can anyone help me out here. Thanks in anticipation. Graham Marsden
