Re: can't connect to MySql server on 'localhost' <10061>

I was installing from scratch (Machine had never had mysql on it) and got the message:

If a personal firewall is running on your machine, please make sure you have opened the TCP port 3306 for connections. Otherwise no client application can connect to the server. After you have opened the port please press [Retry] to apply the security settings.

There was no personal firewall, no Zone Alarm, no Norton products, nothing.

I next installed my favourite text editor, opened the error log in the mysql data directory and everything looked fine. Checked the mysql services, which was in fact running as reported.

Fed up with reading suggestion after suggestion which didn't apply to me (ie no firewall, etc), I just clicked "Retry" for the heck of it.

Presto.

All good.
