Re: Archive not enabled on linux binary by default

I have just found that the version 5.0.18 supplied with Fedora Core 5 final release also has 'have_archive=NO'
And like 5.0.13 in Jared's experience, use of ENGINE=ARCHIVE caused no error message, but MyISAM was quietly used.
I too would much rather not build an executable; is there any quick work around, or do I have either to wait for and install a version that has this fixed or get the source and compile it?
Or is this all a Fedora Core team issue?
UPDATE: FORGET THIS MESSAGE!! Why?...
1 I have written to the FC folk and find the binary in their distro is not a MySQL AB build. It does NOT include ARCHIVE. Fedora is a test bed for RHEL and RHEL do not see a need for ARCHIVE included by default. Fair enough.
2 I have removed the FC5 distro MySQL 5.0.18, and downloaded the MySQL AB site i386 binary RPM, loaded that, and find it DOES have archive included, and works for a simple test.
My problem seems solved fairly easily. Sorry to have bothered you. Hope this helps a.n.other.
