MySQL Workbench 1.0.1 Alpha Release Notes

An overwhelming number of people have been expecting this day to get the first look at the upcoming MySQL Workbench. The MySQL GUI team has been working very hard the last months to get the core features ready and I would like to thank all my team members.

Although we are pretty much excited about this release we hope you realize that this is just the very first alpha version of the tool. That means that this release is far from feature complete and might include a lot of bugs that we will fix in the weeks to come.

We are trying to follow the release-early-release-often principle and therefore we want to share our first major step with our community. This is the first version ever build, also inside the company.

Please share your comments and thoughts on the forum and also please report bugs as soon as we have set up the proper catagory at

Features include:

+ Working with schema objects (Tables, Views, Routine-Containers) and documentation objects (Layers, Notes, no images yet) on the canvas
+ Separation of database catalog and model
+ Multible model views

+ Relationships between tables based on foreign keys
+ Popup Editors

+ Reverse engineering of existing schemata
+ SQL script export

Features not in first alpha but coming later:

- Speed optimizations
- Database Synchronization
- Inline editors
- Import of DBDesigner4 and ERwin models
- In database storage / workgroup management
- Structured datatype emulation
- Reverse engineering from SQL create scripts
- Reverse engineering of all data sources that are offered in the Migration Toolkit
- Support for MaxDB models
- Plugin support

System Requirements

- Windows XP (2k) || OS X 10.3.9
- Fast OpenGL graphic card
- 384 MB ram

Please download from our FTP until the downloadpages are set up.

To be release the next days.

The Linux release is not available right now but we are already working on the port.

Best regards,

Michael Zinner, Team Lead, Developer Tools
