Re: How to create on-the-fly index on derived table?

According to notes posted on the internet and indexed by Google, at the 2006 MySQL Users Conference, Guy Harrison of Quest Software stated in his talk on "Tuning MySQL5 SQL and Stored Procedures" that it is not possible to cause the creation of an index on a derived table. How depressing.

Any plans to change this in a future version of MySQL? It renders subqueries/derived tables useless for all but the most trivial situations and datasets.
