Will you be using InnoDB?
SHOW VARIABLES;
SHOW GLOBAL STATUS;
What queries are running "slow"?
(my.cnf is only a small piece of the puzzle.)
Do you do theupdate / insert / delete one at a time? Or in batches? (Batches of 100 tends to be 10 times as fast.
