Also, keep in mind that to get features added to MySQL, users have various options:
a) write the feature themselves (as the source code to MySQL is open)
b) sponsor MySQL to create the feature
c) buy/find related software which fulfills the need
In your case, perhaps a reporting/OLAP tool which uses MySQL as a backend would suit your needs? BusinessObjects/Cognos/Crystal/etc...?
