Windows Ruby mySQL Options

What exactly are the options/packages connecting a Ruby app to a mySQL 5.x database these days? And is the solution thread-safe?

I do not have a c compiler installed, so I'm also looking for something that doesn't require a build.

And yes, I know about ROR, but because it's not thread-safe, I can't use it. However, whatever I add needs to co-exist with an ROR installation.
