Could you please also tell me how I can verify if the GNU make is currently installed, and is being used.

The PATH variable is defined as below in my environment

echo $PATH

/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/gi-wu/dev/svnWrapper_1.0.0/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/dt/bin:/usr/platform/SUNW,Netra-T4/sbin:/usr/local/mysql/5.0.75/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/dt/bin:/usr/platform/SUNW,Netra-T4/sbin:/usr/local/mysql/5.0.75/bin
