how to build libmySQL dll/lib with a different name?

We are having some issues with conflicting installs of libmysql; unfortunately we cannot change the other program, and we cannot avoid both programs having their libs on the path at the same time. This means we have to change something on our end, and the only thing we can realistically control is the name of the libmySQL dll/lib...

Can someone offer some pointers on how to properly recompile the dll/lib with a changed name, eg: xlibmySQL.dll?
