I downloaded and used, as you suggested, the Max NT build against the MySQL 5.017 noinstall download and after a quick test - everything looked good.
I was surprised not the see the libs (.dll's) on your site - wouldn't these also be optimised for the x64 platform?
Windows XP x64 has the same codebase as Win Srv 2003 - so there's no need to recompile.
