Yes. For your scenario, the 32bit binary would be the common denominator.
We currently don't offer Universal Binaries that support both the 32bit and 64bit archs at the same time. This is on our long-term TODO.

It might be possible to "bundle" these two mysqld binaries into one Universal one after build time using the "lipo" command, but I have not checked this possibility yet.

That could of course be. For now, I don't have a better solution to offer than to choose the corresponding binary depending on what environment you have. Sorry!
