Hi!

MySQL uses it own portable runtime called mysys. The last time I looked it ported to many if not more platforms then the APR. From a number of conversations I have had with Ryan, I know that the APR is not tuned well enough for the needs of a database.

Personally I use the APR for a number of my own projects, but for a database its just not suitable.
