segmentation fault of MySQL client (version 5.7.16)

I recently built MySQL 5.7.16 from source. The MySQL server appears to be running fine. However, when I fired off the MySQL client, a segmentation fault occurred as follows:

Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g.

Your MySQL connection id is 2

Server version: 5.7.16 Source distribution

Segmentation fault

I used MySQL client version 5.5.29 to connect to the 5.7.16 MySQL server without a hitch.

According to my web surfing, the segmentation fault exists in several versions of 5.6.* and 5.7.* and is probably related to libedit. What is not clear to me is what changes are needed in CMake, etc. to rectify the problem.

Thanks for reading.
