MySQL 5.1.30 upgrade has killed Event Scheduler

5.1.22 Events worked for 1 year. Upgrade to 5.1.30. show variables like 'ev%' --> event_scheduler DISABLED. But my.ini is correct, event_scheduler = On. Stop and Start service does not solve problem. Tries mysql>SET GLOBAL event_scheduler = ON; Says "Cannot proceed because system tables used by Event Scheduler were found damaged at server start". What are these system tables? Can I repair them?
