An important point is that the EVENT feature is implemeted in the Server itself. It does not need a client to connect to execute an EVENT. That can be an advantage. But from the announcement I don't think this EVENT-feature is very flexible. Not as flexible as your own client code and not as flexible as SQLyog notifications Services and the other 'powertools' in the 'SQLyog Job Agent' package (www.webyog.com).
