Version specified manual is not a bad idea. I do not think it is difficult to do so.
MySQL is developing, the manual is changing.
One may use an out of date version of MySQL for some reason, I think that it is quite frustrating to find out that no manual available for the version used.
Yes, the latest is the best. But as Mike said, anything is possible.
Keep a series of version specified manual only take a little space. If there is a version of MySQL there should be a version specified manual.
