I would love to have ZFS running on our debian serves. Aside from all that you have said about it I drool over one thing: snapshots. LVM is OK but clunky and I can't do a rollback. I would love to be able to use ZFS to do testing...run queries against a database and then roll back to the "start position" after doing a test run.

As for the Linux port..unless something recent has changed there is only a port to the FUSE system which won't offer ideal performance. There are license conflicts that won't allow ZFS to be ported into the kernel.

We run Linux exclusively in-house but I have actually considered running Solaris just to run ZFS. However the sys admins have to be able to support the serves and we don't have that experience in-house.
