Re: MySQL on ZFS - transactional filesystems = fragmentation

I have the same concern. ZFS sounds great, but I want to know more about the impact of copy on write on performance. Benchmark results have been published, but these have been largely immune to fragmentation as their typical pattern is load data and then query data. They lack the many updates that cause fragmentation.

InnoDB uses 1MB extents and on filesystems that try to honor extent allocation, update in place should preserve the locality of the extent. ZFS makes that less likely.
