Thanks for the reply, I think I will stick with what I have as I have queries that do sum and count operations against these fields with 1,000,000 + records at a time.

I had not even considered views, so thanks for your perspective I did learn something. Then also if I jump to a conclusion from your response a trigger would seem to the worst or least prefered method.
