That should do it. Or you could do the aggregates in an inner subquery, as in
SELECT tfoo.c, tfoo.themax - tfoo.themin
FROM (SELECT c, MIN(i) themin, MAX(i) themax FROM foo GROUP BY c) AS tfoo
