MySQL and Power Management?

Greetings,

We're running MySQL on a development/test server, as well as researching its use in a production product management/accounting system. Both of these applications see lite usage during the average day and no usage after hours.

To reduce energy cost nearly all of our servers utilize some form of power management - usually suspend-mode with wake-on-lan and shutting down the hard drives, after a period of inactivity.

Recently I came across references online that power management usage with MySQL (and maybe all databases) can cause datafile corruption or other serious issues.

My question is what power management policies are recommended for MySQL and which should be avoided?
