MySQL Error!!

Hey all, Need help with MySQL I'm using Xampp 1.1.7 and i'm getting 2 certain errors, I try connecting to localhost it works fine, I click status i get the following:

Common Gateway Interface (CGI) ACTIVATED
Server Side Includes (SSI) ACTIVATED
SMTP Service ACTIVATED
FTP Service DEACTIVATED
Tomcat Service DEACTIVATED

When i also click PHPMyAdmin it shows the following:

Welcome to phpMyAdmin


Error
MySQL said:

#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)
Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed.

I also try and run through Navicat for MySQL and i get the following:
2003- Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)

Any help would be appreciated as i have searched high and low for things to help.
