Preallocation for the serial log file

I think Jim Starkey stated that serial log files were not preallocated (at at MySQL Conference presentation). If this is the case, then the tail of the serial log is more at risk during a system crash unless certain filesystems are used because there may be pending filesystem metadata operations that never get to disk before the crash.

Is this a risk that Falcon deployments are expected to deal with? InnoDB uses preallocated log files.
