So, once the characters are in your db there is no way to get rid of them other than to edit the field, correct?

I use PHPMyAdmin to create and modify my db's and the collation defaults to utf8_swedish_ci. While poncing about in a Joomla forum, I saw something that said this could have caused the problem of the  showing up, so I changed all tables, records and fields to utf8_unicode_ci collation.

Are you saying I didn't have to go through that 2 hour process after all and I have not fixed the issue?

I'm not out to shoot the messanger, I just don't want those characters showing up randomly in my clients' web pages and would like to know how to stop it once and for all.
