I think the problem is in the connection strings. Notice you're using the same socket for both --server1 and --server2. I believe this is causing the utility to connect to the _same_ server and that's why it's not finding anything different and running faster.

So, you should use connection string like this:

--server1=$user:$pass@poldb04:3306 --server2=$user:$pass@poldb03:3306

Try that and if you get the correct results, file a but that the utility uses the socket to override the host:port options. But, this may be as designed. Even so, that is still a bug if the documentation doesn't state it.
