1) it will just the all backends for balancing. The core doesn't know about the difference between read-only and writable. In the future I plan to no use the read-only backends for normal (no-lua) load-balancing as this would confuse users I think.

2) The proxy is transparent by default, but you can make it auth itself in lua-land if you want.
