r/w split with remote master

hi,
i'm trying to set up a r/w split configuration with slave and proxy in kiev and master in germany. for that reason i'd like the proxy to only connect the master if this is really necessary (eg writing), to avoid latency etc.
is there any possibility to get this functionality with mysql proxy?
