how to check if mysql proxy is running

Hi - I'm running mysql proxy in a heavily loaded production environment. It fails every 2-3 hours because the proxy fails to handle exceptions. In light of this,

1) How do I check if Mysql proxy is running on a particular box? Can someone provide a small shell script that I can run?

2) How do I automatically restart it if it is failed?

I think this will help alot of us who are trying to test mysql proxy. Kind of trying to work around these issues since I realize the builds don't come out regularly. My production environment is windows server.
