Using MySQL Proxy for failover

Hi,

We currently have a very write intensive application. We want to implement a failover mechanism so that in case the application is not able to write into database1 for whatever reason, it should immediately start writing into database2. Will MySQL Proxy be able to do this failover immediately? Does anybody have any numbers on the throughput supported by MySQL Proxy? Are there any standard LUA Scripts to achieve such a kind of failover?

Please let me know. Thanks!
