MySQL seems to increase ping at VPS (tried with FreeBSD and CentOS)

Hello. I have got a website and some weeks ago the ping to it suddenly increased from about 25ms to 600-1000ms. When I shut the mysql down it comes back to norm.
After that I migrated to another host, and took the database intact with me. After I placed the database files, the new host which had ping of about 10ms got its ping as high as 250-350 ms. What in MySQL can cause this, how to check it? The system is not loaded at all (none of the abovementioned) but pings are very high.
