There is NetBeans
http://www.netbeans.org/ that has a nice UML diagramming module. Building on that framework to offer database schema design should be straight forward and we would be more than glad to assist them getting it right.
But the point here is that NetBeans is mainly used by Java developers. If you tell our Linux users that they will have to install Java on their machines they will tell you that this is not an option for them. Same for some Windows users.
So there will always be a large target group for native tools out there, and Sun is not just Java. Look at OpenOffice.
But of course I am excited what will happen and I am looking into the future confident and with courage. For now, things proceed as planned.
