"Error: Invalid Object Name" during Forward Engineer SQL Alter Script

When I choose

File > Export > Forward Engineer SQL Alter Script

and provide it a .sql file to compare with the current model

I get a window:

"Error: Invalid Object Name"

and the SQL diff tree does not appear.

running version 5.0.25 build 3427 for windows xp

any workarounds or suggestions how to figure out what object name is invalid are welcome....
