Michael,

It's great news that the MySQL team are in the process of pulling this together as any true newbie could really do with this info, but as you say I need something now, even if just an overview.

As a one man web development agency who is yet to 'make it big' (making it medium would be nice) the conference is unfortunately on the wrong side of the big pond for me to be able to attend.

I look forward to the unveiling of your tutorial next year, but in the meantime can anyone point me in the direction of some existing explanations of db schema conventions?

I am assuming that with layers I can maybe group certain sections of my schema together and create a much tidier diagram than I currently have with my tables and all relations fit on one diagram.
