Can't forward engineer - cannot connect to database - What am I doing wrong?

Maybe this should have been posted in the newbie groups but basically I cannot get forward engineering to work as I cannot connect to the datbase.

I created a MySQL database on my webhost and created a user for that database and can connect through using code like I normally would.

However trying to get MySQL Workbench to connect failed with the error:
"Failed to connect database."

I have tried using the credentials of the same user that I use to connect to the database through PHP code which works fine.
Also I note that in MySQL workbench there is nowhere where it asks the name of the database you are trying to connect to.

Can anyone help. Surely this is something easy?

Thanks in advance.
