Install problem with autogen.sh

Hi, I'm new to linux and I have a problem installing MySQL WOrkbench. I use Debian
5.0.2. I have downloaded the *.deb file, unpacked it and using TerminalWindow (as root) I followed the README steps.

The first step: sudo apt-get install build-essential worked well for all the dependencies to install.
Then I moved to the next step: Run ./autogen.sh --prefix=/etc/mysql-wb52
(I didn't type RUN) the dir /etc/mysql-wb52 does exist and I get the following message:
bash: .autogen.sh File or Directory does not exist
What am I doing wrong?
