How to connect Workbench (WinXP) to a (CentOS) MySQL Server?

CentOS5.3, MySQL Community Server & Client 5.1.36, Workbench-5.1.16

I have installed Workbench on a WinXP system. When I try to connect to MySQL server, nothing happens. No error message on WinXP, nothing!

Both MySQL Server (IP: 10.5.23.101) & WinXP (IP: 10.5.23.200) are on the same network. I can PING each machine back & forth. PORT 3306 (TCP/UDP) on MySQL Server is OPEN. MySQL is running and I can display MySQL versions and all that jazz on the LINUX server.

There is no error in the logs on the MySQL Server.

I did try creating /etc/my.cnf file with the following line in it:

[mysqld]
bind-address = 10.5.23.200

No luck. How can I tell if the connection request is even hitting the MySQL Server? Please give some hint as to what I am doing wrong and how to fix this problem?

I am a newbie so please consider that when responding.
