Rob,
what credentials did you use on the command line? This is what you also have to use in WB for the MySQL login. The SSH settings are the same as with Putty. If you can login via command line then you don't need to reset your root password. Simply try harder in WB. Watch also my video tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCgRF4KOYIY) on how to connect (directly, via WMI and via SSH).
