yes, OSX is the last platform we need to publish a more detailed build description for. Linux users are used to build WB from source (if they don't download from our yum/apt repositories). For Windows we posted an article what is necessary, not so long ago (http://mysqlworkbench.org/2015/06/compiling-wb-on-windows/). Unfortunately, we cannot publish a package of all needed 3rd party libs, which makes custom builds harder.
In the good tradition of "eating ones own dogfood" is MySQL Workbench the first user of the MySQL C++ connector releases. That's why it needs the latest version, to be compilable. However, the latest C++ Connector has not hit the public yet, which makes it impossible for the moment to build WB from source (this applies also other platforms). The plan is however to set out a new version after OOW, so it won't be long until then.
In the meantime use the prebuilt binaries.
