I just installed MySQL workbench on Mac OS, and this is what I am receiving -

Your connection attempt failed for user 'root' from your host to server at localhost:3306:
Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Please give me an advice, because I am lost. I have had XAMPP up and running previously, but I unistalled it to see if it would resolve an issue; it didn’t.
