Did you happen to solve this? I've got exactly the same issue but then on macOS platform. I've scheduled a task (launchd) which runs a couple of mysql commands. If I manually run the script it works fine. If it's run by the launchd I get:

ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
