Can’t connect to mySQL server on MAC

The first time I installed mySQL on my MacBook. I forgot to save the password. I couldn’t connect to mySQL. I decided to remove everything and start again. But when I re-installed it, it didn’t offer me a new password. But fast forward to today, I found the password that was generated for me on the 5th of October in my Notification Center. But now, I still can’t log in due to the fact that I re-installed it. It just gives me the notification "Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (61) (2003)” and just assumes the server is not running, while it is.
