Table 'performance_schema.session_variables' doesn't exist

Hi

Just installed 5.7.27 Community MySQL & Workbench 8.0.17.

When I try to connect as root to MySQL through Workbench after entering the password I get an error box headed < Table 'performance_schema.session_variables' doesn't exist >

The 4 checks the box includes are not applicable as I can access MySQL & all databases using MySQL Shell with the same information.

Any advice please?
