To get rid of that error, you'll need to find whatever in my.ini has persuaded MySQL that it is supposed to be replicating.

Sometimes that is a network connection isue, see https://www.percona.com/blog/2016/05/16/mysql-got-an-error-reading-communication-packet-errors/

Neither error seems likely to "freeze" Workbench as you report, so I still suspect there's something fishy about your Windows installation.
