First of all the 192.168.1.168 at the second item of the things I tried is a typo. It should off course read 192.168.1.68.
However, meanwhile I seem to have fixed the issue by using a longer password for my root users. Before I was using a 15 character strong password, which I've increased to a 25 character strong password.
Why this fixed my issue I do not know. But for those of you running into a similar issue, it's something you can try.
