Does MySQL 8.0.21 still work? I suppose it does... but it's about 5 years old.
The latest 8.0 releases for MySQL Server and MySQL Workbench are both numbered 8.0.42. You can get these from
https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/. (You should start with these since they incorporate all available fixes and improvements in the 8.0 series.)
We also have MySQL Server 8.4 and 9.3. I encourage you to check these out, but for use with Workbench, stick with 8.0.42. (You might also want to look into MySQL Shell for VS later.)
