Setting up a schema in windows localhost

When setting up a new connection in MySQL Workbench what to do enter for
Hostname, port and username?

127.0.0.1, 3306, root fails the connection test.
localhost, 3306, root fails the connection test.
https://localhost, 3306, root fails the connection test.
