faster recoveries from crash

Hi Folks,

My (Linux) server occassional crashes for one reason or another. Invariably the majority of my MyISAM tables are corrupt and need to be repaired. They're always repaired cleanly and without problem, but with several GB of data it's quite a slow process - generally takes an hour or so.

I'm wondering if there's anything I can set in my.cnf to reduce the changes of tables being marked as crashed. Would enabling the bin log help?
