Recovering when the Install Drive Goes Down

So we have a MySQL install on the main OS drive. It's data file is stored on a RAID on a separate drive. The main OS drive has died, and when we designed the system, we assumed we would be able to recover in this case, because the data was on a separate drive.

Now since our initial install plan, we learned that MySQL cannot start if the log files don't match the data files. The log files were located on the OS drive in the MySQL install directory, so they have been destroyed.

I've got a couple questions.

1. For future installs, is it possible to specify the log files to be on the RAID with the data files to prevent recovery problems in this case.

2. Is there any way I can use my data file (which is fine), now that the log files have been destroyed?

Thanks for any help you can give.
