5.5 databases files won't be happy in a 5.7 installation. If I'm you, I install 5.5 with the same settings I had before, stop the mysql server, copy in the old data files, start up the server, and regression-test every relevant functioanlity.
Once that's done, dump, upgrade to 5.6, test, touch up as required, dump again, upgrade to 5.7, test and touch up. There's a table of some of the issues you can expect at
